The Iowa City School District reiterated its opposition to a bill protecting female sports. The district said an

“The Iowa City Community School District is strongly opposed to the state legislation preventing trans athletes from participating in high school, and in some cases, college and elementary school sports,” the district wrote on Twitter.

What immediately must be recognized is the district either doesn’t understand the bill or is intentionally misrepresenting it. Transgender athletes are allowed to play sports, they are simply required to compete in sports based on their biological sex listed on their birth certificate.

“We want to make clear our ongoing support for transgender students and student-athletes,” the district continued. “Our district has in place one of the most robust policies in the country to protect our LGBTQ+ youth. This legislation will not detract us from our commitment to ensure every member of our school community is valued and respected regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation. An attack on transgender students is an attack on civil rights.”

  1. The statement from the Iowa City schools is likely just more of the usual Democrat Party policy of speaking only the portion of a statement or truth that will encourage the uninformed to become enraged at the Republican Party.
