Democrat State Rep. Ross Wilburn, who is also the chairman of the Iowa Democrat Party, expressed positivity when it comes to taxpayers footing the bill for sex-change surgeries.

A District Court judge ruled a law banning Iowa Medicaid from paying for sex-change surgeries to be unconstitutional late last week.

Wilburn said it is “reassuring” to see the ruling.

“It’s reassuring to see the ruling from Polk County today supporting transgender Iowans’ right to access the full spectrum of necessary healthcare,” he said. “Including gender-affirming surgery — no matter your income.

“Make no mistake — this decision will save lives. No matter who we are, we’re all Iowans at the end of the day and deserve to live our authentic lives with dignity and respect.”
