VGM Group of Waterloo announced on May 26 it would offer an “incentive program” to encourage COVID-19 vaccine participation among its employees.
“Based on CDC guidance that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective at reducing the spread of the virus, as well as minimizing the severe health risks of infection, VGM is encouraging employees to receive vaccinations,” said a press release sent out by the company.
“It is our responsibility to ensure that we optimize the safety of our workplace and that we minimize the possibility of the spread of any illness or virus among employee-owners and customers,” said CEO Mike Mallaro.
VGM said it is offering six chances to win $1,000 throughout July. It is not requiring vaccinations, tracking employee vaccination status and is in no way penalizing employees who elect not to be vaccinated.
The Iowa Standard responded to VGM asking who exactly is eligible for one of the six $1,000 giveaways. Since the program is designed to incentivize vaccination, it would seem that only employees vaccinated would be eligible. But if the company isn’t tracking vaccination status, how will it know who is eligible?
So far we’ve not received a response.
