Iowa is expecting approximately 700 refugees among the three resettlement agencies. Beth Gibbins with Catholic Charities said she believes the agencies are all preparing in similar ways.

“Because we were already assigned refugee clients, the Afghan refugees create an urgent need for additional funding, supplies and volunteers,” she said.

Needs can be found on the website.

Catholic Charities has an urgent need for the following apartments for refugee apartment setup:

• Twin and full blankets
• Men’s coats – not XL or L
• Ladies coats – not XL or L
• Paper towels and TP
• Deodorant
• Couches and love seats
• Kitchen tables and chairs
• Ethnic hair products

• Kitchen towels
