Iowa House Democrats wasted little time fundraising off the announcement that House Speaker Linda Upemeyer will not seek re-election in 2020 and plans to resign as Speaker after 2019.

“While the news is surprising, it fits a pattern we’ve been seeing in Iowa since the 2018 election — Republicans know they are vulnerable,” said an email from The House Truman Fund Team, sent from Iowa House Democrats. “After picking up five seats in 2018, the House majority is in sight, and the Republicans can see the ground shifting from underneath them. That’s why you have Republican leaders resigning or seeking safer seats to run in rather than face the voters again in 2020.”

The email closed by asking for people to donate to the House Truman Fund.
