Location is everything. Educators in six states can attest to that. Teachers in New York, California, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Alaska, and Iowa actually make more than the average for other occupations in their area.
In 2017 the Legislature approved significant collective bargaining reforms for government employees in Iowa. At the time, Democrats were concerned it would drive teachers out of state. Not only did this not happen, but teacher wages went up.
