A Go Fund Me page was set up for the Colorado resident who allegedly assaulted Iowa Congressman Steve King in Fort Dodge on Friday. You can read about the incident here.

In response to the wheels of justice being set in motion, a Go Fund Me page was set up to benefit the alleged perpetrator of the crime.

“Nearly everybody knows Steve King is a boob,” wrote Carly Johansen on the Go Fund Me page description. “(He) did what many of us wish we could do. Let’s show him our support for his actions.”

The page hopes to raise enough money to cover legal fees, fines and court costs that the alleged perpetrator might incur in his fight against King and “his minions.”

Here are some of the comments posted on the Des Moines Register’s story:

“Water boarding at its best” – Jvs Salvato

“Good. Steve King is an embarrassment to humanity.” – Mary Bell

“Well that man represents my values far more than Steve King ever will” – Tony Griffin

“The hero we didn’t know we needed” – Katelyn Brockmeyer

“Egg Boi meet Water Boi! That’s sad that it’s takes a Coloradan. I’ll contribute to a go fund me.” – Kathryn Jackson

“Let’s start a ‘Go fund me’ to pay any legal fees he has and everyone else should throw water on him as well.” – Troy Sahr

One person even offered to defend the alleged perpetrator for free. Brian Dailey, who is a radio talk show host at The Law Show and president and senior trial counsel at Dailey Law Firm according to his Facebook profile, said:

“Tell him I will represent him for free.”

Love them or hate them, elected officials deserve respect. This response, and the absence of any sort of condemnation for the behavior from politicians, is troublesome.

Iowa Democrats, if you’re truly incapable of seeing the problem with what this person did, you have a problem. And if you do not fix it, you will get another four years of President Donald J. Trump in 2020.
