A bill passed by the Iowa Senate on Monday will prohibit a county board of supervisors and city councils from restricting the use of fireworks on July 3, July 4 or Dec. 31 in Iowa.

Senate File 303 passed the chamber 31-16 with two Republicans — Senators Jeff Taylor and Mark Lofgren — joining the Democrats in opposition.

Republican State Sen. Cherielynn Westrich said the bill is simple and about freedom. It ensures Iowans will be able to “truly celebrate in the grand American tradition of fireworks,” she said.

The bill will head to the Iowa House of Representatives.

  1. This truly one of the most stupid things they have done!
I was really hoping that they would let local government ban the sale of fireworks in their jurisdiction besides outlawing the shooting of them.
I don’t need fireworks going off to celebrate our countries birth.
