It would be interesting to know if the legislators who voted to add sexual orientation and gender identity to the Iowa Civil Rights Act knew what the ramifications would be just 14 years later.

Lawmakers added the traits to the civil rights code in 2007. Since then the addition has resulted in restroom anarchy in public school, public nudity at swimming pools and now taxpayer-funded sex-change surgeries.

There is no reason for Iowa lawmakers to keep sexual orientation and gender identity in the Iowa Civil Rights Act. It continues to be the crutch used to further the radical LGBTQ agenda throughout the state.

Remember, Iowa is one of just two “red” states that have these protections. The other is Utah. Those two states join California, Oregon, Washington, New York, Illinois, etc. on a list of states that essentially reject basic biology.

A few years ago, Republican State Rep. Dean Fisher had a bill to strip gender identity and sexual orientation out of the Civil Rights Code. It was killed by fellow Republicans.

However, fast forward a few years later, and it has become painfully obvious action has to be taken.

This is where House leadership must step up and carry the torch. They must lead on this. Republicans are five years into total control of Iowa government and we’re still waiting for a subcommittee hearing in the House on a Religious Freedom and Restoration Act.

But this issue must be dealt with in 2022. It must.

Iowa needs to regain a bit of that Iowa commonsense. Or, put another way, sanity.

There are movements in the country attempting to rebrand pedophilia as a “minor-sex attracted” orientation. The perversion of the political Left will never just stop. They’ll always want to go a little further, a little further until there is no sense of normalcy or sanity remaining.

That’s why Iowa Republicans have to act now. They have to. There is no excuse for inaction — unless they’re actually working for the enemy.

The FAMiLY Leader also said the recent sex-change surgery ruling is a reason to get the sexual orientation and gender identity protections out of code.

“In the meantime, the Iowa Legislature should remove the sexual orientation and gender identity language from the Civil Rights Code, which is being used by courts to manipulate and subvert our state constitution,” the group said.

An argument should be made for getting rid of all “protected classes” in reality as the idea of a “protected class” violates equal protection as it provides additional protections based on different traits. But that’s a conversation for another day.

In the meantime, Iowa Republicans should keep their eye on the ball and do what is right. Protect Iowa children. Protect sanity. Allow reason, logic and biology to prevail. Remove sexual orientation and gender identity from the Iowa Civil Rights Act.
