When it comes to the education of our children, we have several options. We can hand them over to the government, we can send them to a private school, or we can homeschool. The decision isn’t an easy one, especially if you are a single parent or both parents are working outside the home on a full-time basis.
One of the most egregious acts of federal government overreach happened in 1979 when President Jimmy Carter signed the Department of Education Organization Act which split the former Department of Health, Education, and Welfare into the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services.
Formerly, education was the domain of the states. The education of America’s children was considered to be a local responsibility. The states delegated authority to local school districts to conduct public education according to the wishes of the local population.
But with the establishment of the federal Department of Education, public education was now directed from Washington, DC instead of our own communities. Instead of local governments financing and maintaining schools locally, bureaucrats in Washington disbursed educational resources according to the dictates of powerful teachers’ unions like the NEA (National Education Association).
Over the years, more and more parents withdrew their children from the public schools as education was increasingly replaced with indoctrination. But many families remain trapped in failing schools, particularly in the inner cities. Of course, this all came to a head when, during the Covid pandemic, public schools were shut down and children were educated at home. Suddenly, parents became aware of the racial and sexual garbage that was being funneled into their kids’ minds.
During the 2024 Presidential campaign, former President Donald Trump issued a statement that, if elected, he would dismantle the Department of Education and send the education of our children back to the states.

At the highest level the responsibility for administering the child’s education is at the lowest level: the parents. The highest measure of success to the parents ought to be having their children hear “Well done, good and faithful servant.” With that final test in mind the parents then choose the curricula best suited to achieve that score. Parents, “train up your children in the way they (personalized) should go.”
If the community wishes to aid the parents, then God bless them but the community needs to honor the parents’ choices.
