From the beginning of time, people have looked at each other from the perspective of the outward appearance. What is the color of your skin? What is the shape of your nose? What is the color of your eyes? Your hair? Are you tall or short? Fat or thin?
Historically, humans have gathered themselves in groups with those who have certain physical similarities. We tend to want to be with people “who look like us.” This is one of the major theories on the development of the races. Those of particular shades tended to live together and over generations those particular skin tones and other physical attributes became more entrenched. Also, over generations, the idea of “mixing” with those of other “races” became more and more unacceptable.
Of course, mixing inevitably happens. As people from one region traveled or migrated to other regions and encountered people with differing skin tones, connections are made and what had been distinctive characteristics of a particular group begin to be altered.
It has always been this way. Human beings have always measured each other on the basis of physical characteristics. What we do with those measurements have at times resulted in racism and even slavery.
Holy Scripture is very clear that, from God’s perspective, the outward physical characteristics of an individual or an entire group of people are not how those folks are judged. As God told Samuel the prophet, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature…For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7).
When we pit one group against another on the basis of physical characteristics, we are denying a basic truth of creation. In Acts 17:26, the Apostle Paul tells the Athenians, “And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings…” Judging anyone based on skin color violates the very character of God.
Scott C. Lovett is the founder and CEO of Fervent Fire Ministries, a nationally renowned non-profit in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He has traveled the United States for decades, founding and establishing churches and organizations, and training leadership in character development through the Ministry Mastery curriculum on local church government.
Over his years of extensive travel, he has personally witnessed a great decline in American society due to a lack of godliness and knowledge of the founding principles of our nation. As a result, people’s lives have been reduced to sin-slavery and a loss of personal freedom, increasing their dependence on tyrannical government.
Some of his travels include the capitals of all 50 states, where he prayed and delivered letters of warning to every governor, legislator, and judge.
As a theologian, singer, author, and educator, he spends his life working to bring all people to Christ.
He attended Oklahoma Christian University and graduated from Oral Roberts University. It was during his time at ORU, that he would meet his wife. In August of 1997, Scott and Christine married, and became one in full-time ministry. Together they purposed to fulfill God’s plan for their lives.
He currently serves as founding pastor of Real Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Scott is the author of “Jesus in Your Skin.”
