In a Virginia gubernatorial debate on Sept. 29, 2021 with Republican opponent Glenn Youngkin, Democrat nominee and former governor Terry McAuliffe declared: “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.” From that moment, Glenn Youngkin became the frontrunner and eventually defeated McAuliffe in the race for governor of Virginia.

There is a mindset on the Left that our children belong to the system. It states in so many words, when you send your children to the public school, they now are no longer under your authority; they now belong to the state. No one ever stated it with as much clarity and forcefulness as former Virginia governor, Terry McAuliffe. The state cannot allow parents to tell schools what to teach!

That’s why there is so much opposition to school choice in the Democrat Party. They cannot allow parents to be the educators of their children. How else can the system continue to indoctrinate young people in the way of socialism and Marxism and secularism? The state must continue to exercise total control of what children in this country are taught. Otherwise, they might believe in God or have a Biblical worldview or become religious zealots and terrorists.

Since American education was moved from local control to federal control, the academic elite have replaced education with mind-control. We no longer teach our children to think for themselves and develop logic and ethics. Now we tell them what they must think and how they must act in order for them to fit into the world system that has been constructed to replace faith, family, and freedom.

Tina Descovich has a long record of fighting for students and parental rights in Florida, and at the national level. She was elected to the Brevard County, FL school board in 2016. She was selected by her peers to serve as Chairman in 2018. While on the school board, she was a member of The Florida Coalition of School Board Members and served as the organization’s president in 2018.

As a graduate of Valdosta State University with a bachelor’s degree in communication, Tina worked as a consultant on projects ranging from helping fast growing startup companies, to creating and implementing strategic and communication plans. She served on the executive planning team for the National Air, Space, and Sea Foundation planning airshows and on the executive staff for the United States Army Commanding General of the Combined Arms Support Command and Fort Lee.

In 2021, Tina co-founded Moms for Liberty, a grassroots national non-profit organization that works to unify, educate, and empower parents to defend their parental rights, which has grown to over 300 chapters in 48 states with over 130,000 members and she currently serves as the organization’s Executive Director. In September of 2023, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Tina to the Florida Commission on Ethics.
