The term “wokeism” is used to describe a set of beliefs and practices related to social justice, but it carries varied and often contradictory meanings. While its roots are in black vernacular for awareness of social injustices, it has evolved into a pejorative term used to criticize progressive ideas.
Wokeism is a dogmatic, self-righteous, and intolerant ideology. Adherents are overly sensitive to social injustice and seek to censor or “cancel” those who disagree with them.
Dictionary.com defines “wokeism” as the “promotion of liberal progressive ideology and policy as an expression of sensitivity to systemic injustices and prejudices.
This ideology prioritizes racial and group identity over individualism, and views the world primarily through a racial lens. Wokeism has evolved into “a religion.”
The purpose of wokeism “is to try to seek to supplant Christianity in America, to usher in kind of a neo-pagan resistance, to see Jesus as the oppressor and all these other political identity groups as the oppressed,” according to Lucas Miles. “And I think it’s very important that we understand what’s happening and that I lay out a strategy on how the church can deal with this to begin to really help provide counsel and support the younger generation that’s being led astray by these deceptive ideas.”
Like secularism before it, “wokeism” is a pagan philosophy that tries to solve the world’s problems without God; and as in Satanism, it blames God and God-fearers for all the problems in the world.
