The liberty currently under fiercest assault in the Iowa Legislature is our sacred property rights, protected by the Fifth Amendment: “nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.” Neither the U.S. Constitution nor the Iowa Constitution needed to explicitly prohibit the seizure of private land for another private entity’s profit (such as Summit Carbon Solutions), because the very idea was unthinkable to our Founders and Framers. Yet that prohibition is clearly implied: if government cannot take your land for public use without just compensation, it most certainly cannot take it for private gain, no matter the proposed compensation.
Wendy Larson understands this truth—and so much more. Her convictions align perfectly with Land of the Free Action. We know Wendy will never be swayed by money or power. Her loyalty is to God, country, and the people of Iowa. She is the living embodiment of Iowa values.
