Voters in House District 58 will have an important decision to make in November. Will they retain Rep. Andy McKean, who left the Republican Party last year late in the legislative session and joined the Democrat Party?

They have a choice thanks to Republican candidate Steven Bradley. Bradley, 62, has practiced dentistry for 35 years.

“I’m running because I’m very conservative,” Bradley said. “I’m a businessman and I don’t like paying taxes. I’m pro-Second Amendment and I’m pro-life.”

When McKean left the GOP in 2019, he said he no longer felt comfortable with the Republican Party.

“I think the party has veered very sharply to the right and that concerns me,” he said. “Listening to discussion on the critical issues of the day since I’ve been back in Des Moines, I’ve felt great sympathy with the Democrat Party on major issues.”

Voters in the district have since felt betrayed by McKean’s switch.

Bradley, who has five grandchildren, has their best interest in mind.

“I want my grandkids to grow up in a great economy and a safe place,” he said. “I want to make Iowa a better place.”

Another key area of focus for Bradley is agriculture. He said agriculture is absolutely critical for the district.

And, after having served as President of the Iowa Dental Association and Dental Board, he has plenty of experience working through the legislative process.

As for McKean and his disdain for President Donald Trump, Bradley remained true to form in his assessment of the President.

“Just look at our economy,” he said. “Our economy is booming right now because of him.”

This will undoubtedly be one of the most-watched House races in the state in 2020. For those wanting more information about Bradley’s candidacy, you can find his Facebook page here.
