A new Rasmussen Reports national phone and online survey shows less than half of GOP voters want Congressman Kevin McCarthy to be Speaker of the House. Twenty-nine percent of Republicans are opposed while 24 percent are undecided.

Overall, just 35 percent of likely U.S. voters believe Republicans should select McCarthy. Forty-one percent oppose him.

Among unaffiliated voters, 46 percent do not want McCarthy as the next Speaker, just 28 percent favor him for the job.

The survey included 900 likely voters and was conducted Jan. 2-4.

Fifty-five percent of Republicans hold a favorable view of McCarthy. Thirty-three percent of Democrats do as well, but just 32 percent of unaffiliated voters view him favorably.
