The core question of abortion is whether the baby is a human being or not. If it is, it is absolutely wrong to kill it. If it isn’t, its death is irrelevant.
A baby is a separate, distinct human being. He is endowed with the same rights as you and I, most importantly life!
This is borne out by the Bible as well as logical argument and historical fact. The Bible says in Jeremiah, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” God knows each baby before it is born. The Old Testament lays out specific penalties for injuring or killing an unborn baby. Leviticus 17:11 says “For the life of the flesh is in the blood” and the baby’s blood never mixes with the mother’s. All of these show plainly that a baby is a person as much as I am.
The most common argument against life is that it’s not human because it isn’t born yet. This means circumstances dictate whether a person is human or not. This very logic was used to justify slavery with all is cruelty. A slave was considered subhuman because he had black skin. Now, a baby is considered subhuman because it hasn’t been born yet. To illustrate, in 1781, a slave ship captain threw one hundred and thirty-one slaves into the sea. A trial was held, and it was ruled that his deed was no different than if he had drowned horses. Today we practice the exact same crime, for the exact same end (money), with the exact same reasoning. Only the circumstances have changed. Instead of skin, it’s size that determines humanity.
Will you look the other way while millions are killed? Will you let racism, with all its evil, resurrect itself? I won’t! Our state currently has a six-week heartbeat ban on abortion. This is not good enough. We cannot stand undecided between good and evil, and life and death. Either abortion is wrong or it isn’t! Either a baby is a person or it isn’t! Either it’s wrong to kill or it isn’t!
People of Iowa! Remember the millions who never saw daylight and never got to cast a vote or say a word. Abortion is wrong, and we have to stop it. An abortion ban from conception is the only answer.
