I’m the parent of two children attending Waukee schools and I’m stunned by what I witnessed at a school board meeting on Monday, October 25. I assumed, naively, that my tax dollars wouldn’t pay for materials containing graphic images of child sex. I assumed, naively, that my tax dollars wouldn’t pay for depictions of sexual relations between adults and children. I assumed, naively, that my tax dollars wouldn’t pay for disgusting descriptions of incest. I assumed, naively, that these materials would never be available in school libraries.

Iowa state law deems it illegal to disseminate and exhibit obscene material to children. Will Waukee police officers, Dallas County sheriff’s deputies, and/or the Dallas county attorney’s office conduct an immediate inquiry?

I’d assume so, but then again, I assumed district leaders were focused not on producing a new generation of political activists, but preparing young people to excel in a high-tech global economy.

Sincerely,

Concerned Dad
