There is a growing number of Iowans concerned about the small cell wireless antennas being deployed in our community. These powerful antennas, part of the next generation of wireless technology (5G), are being placed in close proximity to our homes, schools and other places where we engage in the activities of our daily lives, even though there is no science that assures their safety. This is an undeniable risk and we do not consent to this involuntary exposure.

Furthermore, we oppose FCC 18-111 ruling concerning small cell tower siting, similar to Iowa’s Cell Siting Act. These laws remove local sovereignty and limit how much municipalities can charge for the use of public rights of way while stampeding over local and state power to consider the legitimate concerns of members of the public such as health, public safety and environmental issues and how to responsibly address them. The 5G rollout cannot carry on unrestrained. Other states have established 5G Safety Committees and Oregon went as far as declaring an emergency over exposure to wireless radiations in schools.

The FCC’s human exposure guidelines for the radio frequency (RF) microwave radiation used for this technology are decades out of date and the agency has dismissed the results of decade-long research on RF microwave radiation and human health completed last year by the National Toxicology Program that showed “clear evidence of carcinogenicity.” Because the health and safety of our families is at stake, we have formed a group, Iowans for Responsible Technology, and together with the non-profit, Health Freedom Iowa we will be joining a national 5G Day of Action on Saturday, July 27 to demand a moratorium on further deployment of 5G until it can be proven safe.

Our event will take place in 3 different locations throughout the state:
1) Cedar Rapids : Natural Grocers, 931 Blairsferry Rd NE at 12 p.m.
2) Davenport: Vander Veer Park, 215 W Central Park at 4 p.m.
3) Des Moines: Verizon store, 3714 Merle Hay Rd at 12 p.m.

Join us to oppose the chronic exposure of a known preventable environmental and health hazard.
