As a libertarian-leaning Republican in Iowa, I believe our party must stand for the core principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and individual liberty. That is why I am proud to be supporting Adam Steen in the Republican primary for governor.

While some of my fellow Republican colleagues have rallied behind Randy Feenstra, I believe his record in Congress raises a few concerns for voters who value principled and consistent conservatism.

First, when we examine Feenstra’s record on spending, there are some concerns that should give fiscal conservatives pause. During his time in Congress, he has supported large federal spending packages that contribute to the growing national debt, which is something that we as Republicans have long campaigned against. Even organizations like the Heritage Foundation that track conservative voting records have shown inconsistency, with his ratings declining in recent years, reflecting a shift away from strong fiscal discipline.

Second, Feenstra has recently demonstrated that he has a willingness to go along with Washington’s status quo rather than stand up to it. Whether it’s backing broad resolutions on federal policy or supporting measures that expand government influence, his record as a Congressman somewhat suggests that he is more aligned with establishment politics than with the grassroots conservative movement. Our state deserves a governor who will not compromise or falter when it comes to standing for our core values. We need a leader in Des Moines who will fight to reduce the size of government, protect individual freedoms, and challenge both parties when they overreach.

Adam Steen represents that kind of real leadership that our State so desperately needs. He is not beholden to the political establishment, and he understands that the role of government should be limited, accountable, and rooted in the Constitution and our nation’s founding principles.

This primary is about the future direction of our party. Do we continue down the path of career politicians and cautious compromise, or do we choose principled leadership? I stand with Adam Steen because I believe Iowa deserves better and I know we can do better.
