With the rise of special interests pushing electric vehicle mandates on consumers across the country, HSB214, introduced by Rep. Derek Wulf, will protect Iowans’ ability to choose what kind of fuel-powered vehicles and equipment they wish to buy for their personal needs.

This bill is essential for three reasons. First, it empowers Iowans by allowing them to choose the fuel they want to use in their vehicles and equipment. Second, it ensures fairness by making sure that no specific fuel source is unfairly discriminated against in the future, thereby maintaining a level playing field for all fuels. And lastly, it supports local businesses’ practical needs. In Iowa, our agricultural and construction sectors rely on fuel-powered machinery that isn’t necessarily based on electrification. This bill will help these businesses operate more efficiently.

The bill, if it becomes law, will protect Iowans’ access to biofuel, gas, and diesel-powered trucks and cars while allowing new technologies space in the marketplace, all while avoiding unrealistic government mandates on consumers.

I thank Rep. Wulf for his leadership in putting Iowans’ consumer preferences first. I encourage the legislature to follow Rep. Wulf’s lead and support HSB214.
