Hopefully that title grabbed a few of you because I have an important message. Republicans constantly criticize Congressman Randy Feenstra for not showing up to major events. Meanwhile, entirely overlooking another critical race – State Auditor.

At least Feenstra has been doing his own private events across our state. My wife’s opponent, Chris Cournoyer, has done next to nothing to campaign for Auditor. I am not sure if she’s expecting a coronation into the office or doesn’t really want the job, but my wife has severely outworked her in this race.

Abby Maas has been to hundreds of events and in front of thousands of Iowans. I’d like to remind everyone we wouldn’t have the looming threat of Rob Sand for governor if Republicans had gotten Todd Halbur across the finish line. This seat has been used as a launching pad for higher office and it needs to stop. We need a candidate who is serious and wants to do the work – or risk becoming the next Minnesota.

It’s going to take major work to win this seat back for Republicans in this general election. If Cournoyer’s campaign work ethic translates into the general election and as State Auditor, we are in serious trouble. Her own peers aren’t afraid to admit it. It’s clear she isn’t passionate about the office like my wife, Abby. She thought this was a safe spot, and it’d be a shoo-in campaign before Abby made a splash by jumping into the race.

As a county supervisor, Abby had little name ID and grew to be a serious opponent through hard work and many late nights away from home. Iowans from both parties love her passion and vision, and she has the work ethic to win the seat. This must be why Cournoyer won’t debate Abby and conveniently misses the forums.

I know I am biased as her husband, but I am only echoing what people say to us all the time. I hope that Republicans take this office more seriously in the June Primary and vote to win the general election by checking the box: Abigail Maas for State Auditor.
