On April 3, 2025 the Republicans of Franklin County held an event with Riley Gaines as the speaker.  A brief message was also shared by someone completely unknown to me at the time – Brad Sherman, who said he was running for Governor of Iowa.  I was very impressed and continued to learn more and became even more convinced to vote for Brad over the next year.  At this year’s April event in Franklin County I even got a yard sign for Brad and installed it in my yard in early May.  I have since removed that sign.  Why? Let me explain.

Do you remember candidate Donald Trump on a packed Republican debate stage in February 2016 saying nobody would be talking about immigration if it weren’t for him bringing it up?  That may or may not be true, but I’ve found Zach Lahn to have taken up that type of cause in the Iowa Governor’s race.  Not the immigration issue, but issues like losing family farms to corporations; Chinese owned Syngenta having great influence in farming inputs; the real harm in glyphosate; nitrates in Iowa’s waterways; and young people fleeing our state upon high school or college graduation.

Zach has been a guest on two major podcasts.  Both on Tucker Carlson – https://tuckercarlson.com/tucker-show-zach-lahn-022326 and Shawn Ryan – “#290 Zach Lahn – Inside America’s Cancer-Causing Chemical Problem” on Apple Podcasts.  I would encourage listening to both.  You will not hear political double speak like when other candidates say we need to study why Iowa’s cancer rates are so high or why our water quality is poor – Zach makes the correlations using real numbers already available.  He even mentions Parkinsons disease in relation to glyphosate.

On August 31, 2025, Veritasium released a YouTube video entitled “Exposing Why Farmers Can’t Legally Replant Their Own Seeds,” which explores the history of Monsanto’s herbicides.  The video has almost 21 million views right now.  It reveals the ever increasing grip of large corporations on farmers across the nation.  Zach is likewise willing to bring such issues to light for both health reasons and to steer us back toward an ability for independent, family farming before the family farms are completely gone.  These are dangerous topics to discuss in Iowa.  Zach is talking.

I believe Brad is a good man and would be a fine Governor.  But there is one other issue late in the game that pushed me to Zach – the numbers.  Several sources put Zach as the main contender against no-show Randy Feenstra.  Unfortunately, Brad is way down the list.  The Iowa Standard gubernatorial poll currently has Zach at 44% and Brad at 7%.  If this is accurate, there’s not much hope for Brad.  So because of his bold willingness to address real health and family farm issues, I’ve changed my support and will be voting for Zach Lahn on June 2.

  1. I believe the farmers trusting and voting for Trump twice is contributing to the downfall of family farms. But hey Trumps sends em money, so what’s that tell ya. Also Steen’s take on the farm fertilizer, water pollution, nitrates , issues are well not to be laid on the farmers , but rather blames the taxpayers unhealthy life style, radon, cigarettes, booze etc. The Jesus guy not very well informed. He’s out. Sherman n Eddie, out, too low in the polls. They should drop now and let other two be considered to see who gets the nomination. But we see what happens.
