A seventh-grade literacy teacher in Winterset came out as bisexual to his students on Monday. Superintendent Justin Gross said the district is aware some parents have expressed concerns with a “small portion” of what the instructor shared and feel it wasn’t appropriate for the classroom setting.

“As you can see in the PowerPoint, the activities of the day were geared at getting to know the class and the instructor,” Gross told The Iowa Standard. “We always welcome and appreciate the feedback of parents with concerns about their children’s education in our district.”

Parents were told by students that teacher Lucas Kaufmann presented some sort of PowerPoint presentation on LGBTQ pride. It is not known exactly what all was discussed in class, but the PowerPoint that The Iowa Standard received just shows this slide:

Of note, later in the presentation, students were asked to share the “weirdest day” of their life — but to keep it school appropriate:
