Live Action Founder and President Lila Rose issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s executive order expanding in vitro fertilization (IVF).
“The staggering cost of IVF is human lives—the over 90% of tiny boys and girls created via IVF only to be frozen, discarded, or killed. This is not pro-life. Every human life begins at fertilization, yet IVF treats human beings as disposable. President Trump’s goal of helping more Americans have families and more babies is a good one—but expanding IVF is the wrong way to do it. Instead, he should champion ethical and effective solutions like Restorative Reproductive Medicine (RRM) and NaProTechnology, which are more effective, cheaper, and treat the root causes of infertility without sacrificing human life.
For every one child born through IVF, an average of 15 are created—most will never be born. More than 85% of the human lives conceived through IVF are either frozen indefinitely, miscarried, discarded, or subjected to experimentation and destruction. Right now, over a million frozen human embryos are trapped in storage across the U.S., waiting for a fate they cannot control. The IVF industry operates with virtually no oversight, profiting off the mass destruction of innocent lives. A truly pro-life approach must respect the dignity of every human being from the moment of fertilization, working to heal the human body’s reproductive systems, rather than treating human life as a commodity to be manipulated, stored, or discarded at will.
Key Facts on IVF:
- Less than 10% of human embryos created via IVF result in a live birth.
- 93% of embryos are frozen indefinitely, miscarried, or destroyed.
- Over 1,000,000 embryos are currently frozen in the U.S.
- On average, 15 embryos are created per one live birth.
- “Excess” embryos are routinely discarded, subjected to experimentation, or frozen indefinitely.
Infertility struggles can be heartbreaking, and ethical solutions should be pursued. The CDC estimates that 19% of married women aged 15 to 49 with no prior births cannot get pregnant after one year of trying. But the answer cannot be the mass destruction of human life. Restorative Reproductive Medicine (RRM) offers a far better alternative to IVF: it treats underlying fertility issues rather than bypassing them. Research has shown that RRM has a higher live birth rate thaen IVF with fewer complications.
No one is entitled to a child at the cost of denying the humanity and rights of countless others. A compassionate society must work to support families while upholding the dignity and protection of every human being—born and preborn. President Trump and our other leaders should champion ethical, life-affirming fertility options that protect both mothers and children.”
