Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf discussed details of a new program to give $500 a month to some low-income families of color.

Low-income white families are expressly excluded.

Beginning this spring, roughly 600 randomly selected families of color in Oakland will receive $500 checks each month for at least a year and a half. Families have to make less than $30,000 annually and have one child.

The Washington Post made clear families “must be black, indigenous or otherwise identify as people of color.”

Schaaf’s home was vandalized last July by Black Lives Matter rioters.
