Karoline Leavitt, spokeswoman for Make America Great Again Inc., called Ron DeSantis’ planned campaign launch one of the “most out-of-touch campaign launches in modern history” on Tuesday.

“The only thing less relatable than a niche campaign launch on Twitter is DeSantis’ after party at the uber-elite Four Seasons resort in Miami,” Leavitt said. “Every day more and more Americans are realizing just how out of step Ron DeSantis is with their values and how unelectable he really is.”

Leavitt highlighted DeSantis’ votes to cut Social Security and Medicare, to supporting a national sales tax, support of Barack Obama’s TPP and opposition to Trump’s wall.

“Ron DeSantis just isn’t ready to be President,” Leavitt said. “President Trump is ready on day one to turn our country around, reverse Biden’s disastrous policies and make America great again.”

DeSantis cosponsored a 23 percent national sales tax three times — in 2013, 2015 and 2017. The Trump campaign claims if the current tax system were replaced with such a national sales tax, 90 percent of families would see a tax increase.

His vote to grant Obama “fast-track” authority to negotiate the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal was also criticized.

“DeSantis has already shown he will toe the globalist line,” the Trump campaign said. “President Trump withdrew the U.S. from the TPP and ended the catastrophic NAFTA deal.

“DeSantis even stood with globalists when he actually voted against a bill that included $1.6 billion in border wall funding. Luckily for the American people — and with no thanks to Ron DeSantis — President Trump succeeded in building and improving over 400 miles of the wall which successfully reduced border crossings in those areas by over 87 percent.”
