A “very important communication” was sent to Marshalltown Community School District employees a couple of weeks ago detailing the expectations for the OSHA rules related to the COVID-19 vaccine.

The emergency temporary standard “obligates” employers to require COVID vaccination or weekly testing and masking for their unvaccinated employees, the email said.

Beginning Dec. 6, the ETS requires employers to ensure all unvaccinated employees begin wearing masks. Beginning Jan. 4, the ETS requires covered employers ensure unvaccinated employees provide a negative test on a weekly basis.

The district will create a list showing the vaccination status of each employee, obtain proof of vaccination and maintain the record.

“This process is being developed now to prepare for the requirement,” the email said. “Great care will be taken to ensure the confidentiality of each employee.”

Employees are also provided with up to four hours of paid time off to receive each primary vaccination.

“And paid sick leave to recover from any side effects experience following each primary vaccination dose,” the email said.
