A North Carolina hospital system announced it has fired about 175 unvaccinated employees who failed to comply with its COVID vaccine mandate.

Last week, Novant Health said about 375 unvaccinated workers had been suspended and granted five days to comply with the mandate. A spokesperson with the organization said nearly 200 workers are now vaccinated.

“We stand by our decision to make the vaccine mandatory as we have a responsibility to protect our patients, visitors and team members regardless of where they are in our health system,” the system said. “We couldn’t be prouder of our team members who made the choice to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and remain part of our team at Novant Health.”

While the mass termination is among the largest to date, according to The Washington Post. However, ChristianaCare, a Delaware health system, announced 150 employees were fired for failing to comply with its vaccine order.
