National Democrats haven’t elected a Democrat to the United States Senate in Iowa other than Tom Harkin since the 1970’s. Now, national Democrats are poised to force a flawed candidate on Iowa Democrats by flooding Theresa Greenfield with cash from lobbyists, corporate-funded Leadership PACs, and other interests closely aligned with fossil fuels, pharmaceuticals, Wall Street, and Big Ag.

US Senate candidate Eddie J. Mauro appeared on NBC’s ‘The Insiders’ yesterday, airing across Iowa in Des Moines, Sioux City, and the Quad Cities. On the program Mauro boldly states why the DSCC backed candidate, Theresa Greenfield, is a minefield of past mistakes, rife with baggage and would be eaten like Mother’s Day breakfast in the general election:

“I’ve led a business through the crisis in 2000, through the Great Recession and now in the COVID crisis. Each time I took a pay cut and made sure none of my workers were laid off…Theresa Greenfield, when times got tough, the company she helped lead, Rottlund Homes of Iowa, went bankrupt. It laid-off workers and short-changed contractors. And her next job at Colby (Interests), instead of fighting for small business owners she attempted to evict them to make way for big business.” – US Senate candidate Eddie Mauro on NBC’s ‘The Insiders’ (Clip available here).

In her last failed run for US House in 2018, Greenfield’s campaign forged hundreds of signatures in an attempt to get on the ballot to challenge now Congresswoman Cindy Axne, with Greenfield’s campaign manager being arrested and charged with 13 counts of records tampering and one count of first-degree election misconduct, which is a felony.

Even current Congresswoman Cindy Axne agreed in 2018 in an Iowa Starting Line piece that, in regards to illegal signature fraud, that “the buck stops with the candidate”. (1)

A current TV ad running across Iowa, with almost a half a million dollars behind it, states that Greenfield ‘…refused to take responsibility when her company defaulted on loans, laid-off employees, and closed shop in Iowa. Her record shows we can’t trust Theresa Greenfield.”

“Iowans have a choice to make on June 2nd, and Senator Schumer and the DSCC don’t exactly have a great track record of winning Senate seats in Iowa. Now, I don’t track Sen. Schumer’s travel that extensively, but I’d be interested in knowing the last time he talked to an Iowa voter that wasn’t a lobbyist, major campaign donor, or a consultant. So, we are calling for Theresa Greenfield and Chuck Schumer to do the following. First, pledge to support the Democratic nominee. I know I’m “Voting Blue, no Matter Who” and will do whatever it takes to defeat Joni Ernst. Will Theresa and Chuck Schumer? Second, I’m calling on Theresa to return every penny of Leadership PAC money she has received that comes from PACs that take corporate money. You’ve told Iowans for months that you don’t take Corporate PAC money. Now show them you mean it.”
