As 2020 Republican candidates continue to try to latch on to President Donald Trump, many of you have looked back to see what these same candidates were saying prior to Trump’s Administration.
Sen. Mariannette Miller-Meeks is running for Congress in Iowa’s Second District. She is in the midst of a competitive GOP primary. And she, like many others, is working on earning the votes of Trump supporters.
However, in 2016 Miller-Meeks was asked on Twitter if she believed Trump was fit to be President.
“As fit as Hillary Clinton,” Miller-Meeks responded. “Both liars and corrupt. He did it legally, she broke laws, used government position and hurt national security.”
That tweet came just a month before the election.
Terry Schilling, son of Bobby Schilling and campaign manager for his congressional campaign, released the following statement:
“Once again, we’re seeing that Mariannette Miller-Meeks can’t be trusted. First she misspoke when she said she was Catholic and pro-choice. Will she now claim she ‘mistweeted’ when she called President Trump a “liar” and “corrupt”?
“I’m sorry, but let’s be honest — there’s no way anyone who said this less than a month out from the election actually voted for the president. Yet she’s out running attack ads against Bobby Schilling on this issue — a guy who actually voted for the president and actively supported him.
“She’s not trustworthy — not at all. She’s not pro-life. And she didn’t support Trump when it mattered. Voters need someone they can depend on in Congress.”
