According to multiple reports, a Missouri town has prevented minors from attending a Christmas drag show. Chesterfield mayor Bob Nation discussed local ordinances with the promoters of the event and the decision was made to keep kids from attending.

Controversy erupted over the planned performance because all ages were going to be allowed to attend. The event was in its eighth year.

Nation said the decision is not meant to disrespect the LGBTQ community or restrict drag shows, but noted he had concerns about content that they were told might occur.

“We thought we should suggest limiting the age limit,” he said. “And the promoters readily did that.”
