Joe Mitchell released the following statement following his primary victory and the election match-up against radical Leftist Lindsay James:

“Lindsay James is the most radical Leftist to ever run for Congress in the state of Iowa. Her voting record is one of raising taxes, defending state benefits for illegal immigrants, and supporting gender transitions for young children. While she’s running to be a rubber stamp for the most extreme Democrats in Washington, I will be a representative for all Iowans.

“I don’t care for special interests or the party establishment. I care that Northeast Iowa has a true independent voice. Someone who sticks to principles, debates the issues, and votes with common sense.”

We are Not Making It Up. Lindsay James is the Most Radical Leftist To Run for Congress in the State of Iowa:

In March 2024, James voted against a bill which requires noncitizens to verify immigration status and Iowa residency to receive public assistance and creates new felony crimes for smuggling persons into or within the state. (HF 2608, Iowa Legislature, 3/7/24)

In April 2024, James voted against a bill that lowers Iowa’s individual income tax from a graduated system with rates up to 5.7 percent to a single 3.8 percent flat rate. (SF 2442, Iowa Legislature, Passed House 68-24; James Voted Nay 4/19/24)

In February 2024, James voted against a bill that phases down individual income tax rates, creates a 3.9 percent flat income tax beginning in 2026, eliminates state taxes on retirement income, and expands capital gains exclusions for employee-owners and retired farmers. (HF 2317, Iowa Legislature, Passed House 61-34; James Voted Nay 2/24/24)

In May 2025, James voted against prohibiting state funds from being used for sex reassignment surgeries. (HF 1049, Iowa Legislature, Passed House 63-28; James Voted Nay, 5/13/25)

In March 2023, James voted against a bill prohibiting gender transition procedures for minors. (SF 538, Iowa Legislature, Passed House 58-39; James Voted Nay 3/8/23)

On the house floor debating SF 538 she stated “it is mind boggling that the defense of this legislation is under the disguise of protecting children. When has protecting children meant denying them what can be lifesaving care.” (Lindsay James, Iowa House Floor, 3:42:03pm to 3:42:24pm, 3/8/23)
