Brenna Bird’s campaign is releasing its second television ad today. The ad, called “Tragedy,” focuses on Democrat Attorney General Tom Miller’s refusal to confine a child molester “indefinitely.”
Instead, Miller allowed the individual to be released because he got a sex change and now identifies as a female.
“The Iowa Attorney General has the responsibility to keep Iowans safe and fully prosecute threats to our neighborhoods,” said Brenna Bird. “Tom Miller refused to do that and used a sex change as the basis to allow a convicted child molester to go free. Enough is enough. It’s time for a new Attorney General.”

The ad features Joseph (Josie) Smith, a repeat sexual predator who molested at least 15 children in Louisiana and Iowa, including other offenses. Miller initially sought to confine Smith “indefinitely” at a Civil Commitment facility for sex offenders.
At that time, Miller’s office stated Smith was a “sexually violent predator and has a high chance of reoffending.” After Smith received treatment for gender reassignment at the Newton Correctional Facility, Miller’s office hired a forensic psychologist and former clinical director at CCUSO, Dr. Tracey Thomas, to reevaluate Smith in light of his hormonal changes.
Dr. Thomas claimed the lowered levels of testosterone and subsequent lowered sex drive decreased the likelihood of re-offense.
In January of 2020, Miller’s office motioned to dismiss its own case against smith.
Smith later committed criminal acts of child pornography in 2021 and 2022, which resulted in his parole being revoked and Smith returning to prison.
According to the Storm Lake Times Pilot, an unauthorized phone was found during a parole inspection in January. The phone contained child pornography depicting boys and girls between five and eight years old.
In that article, the Storm Lake Times wrote:
“The AG abandoned its case because the assessment was moot: Smith started identifying as a woman and underwent treatment for a sex change.”
Last October, the Storm Lake Times reports a field services officer found an unauthorized tablet Smith used to view pornography and seek out sex.

So, the one let go offended again, and Miller had him put back behind bars. And the problem is? Miller did not “just set him/her free. end of story.” He/she was under oversight of a parole officer. And when contraband was found, no ifs and buts about it, but was arrested and imprisoned. Why is that part left out of the message?
Why is it that as Republicans we can lie and distort truth, and yet claim to be believers in God? Why is it that Republican candidates think it is okay for s to speak this way about people? Are we so driven to get a position of power that our values can be ignored?
And it is not just local candidates. Too many Republicans support the “big lie…” Just so they can be elected.
One should read the preamble of the platform of the Iowa GOP.
Not necessarily true. If you look, in October the individual got into trouble. And then in January got into trouble again and the request for leniency was denied because of the October incident. The individual never should have been released but was released because he was “transitioning” to a girl.
