Iowa Firearms Coalition has a new president as the group announced Dave Funk was selected to fill the position.
“This is a phenomenal organization,” Funk said. “IFC has morphed from Iowa Carry and it has become one of the most effective lobbying groups in the United States at the state level. This organization is going to continue to grow. My goal is to grow the membership and have greater grassroots involvement.”
Virginia has woke up the nation, Funk said.
“The obvious thing is, there are threats every day to our basic freedoms and there are people who have the opinion that they know what’s best for us,” he added. “You know, the average American knows what’s best for them.”
The 2020 campaign will feature a clear choice between state control of everything you do versus individual responsibility and individual control, Funk said.
“It’s not a message of pro-gun,” he said. “It’s a message of personal responsibility. It’s a message that each and every one of us has an inalienable right given by God to protect ourselves.”
Efforts to restrict an individual’s right to self-defense are actually efforts to take away a basic human right.
“It’s the core of our human rights,” Funk said. “This is really a human rights issue as much as it is a gun control issue. The entire bill of rights is basic human rights. Why would we separate this one in particular from all the rest or treat it differently or over-regulate it? There’s no reason for that.”
The Second Amendment goes a long way in preventing the government from having a monopoly on power in America.
“If government has the monopoly on power, it will abuse the people in the country,” Funk said. “We’ve got thousands of years of history on that which proves it right every time. The thing that stands between America and tyranny is our ability to limit the government’s monopoly on power. It’s what the Second Amendment is all about.
“This isn’t about hunting. This isn’t about target shooting. This is about defending America, defending your family, defending your home, defending your neighborhood.”
As for getting the message out, Funk said it’s just a matter of educating people.
“Once people see how the world really works, not just through the Pollyanna or the rose-colored glasses they want to see, most people agree with us,” Funk said. “We can see that in the surveys. Literally hundreds of them — most Americans are supportive of responsible gun ownership. Most Americans are supportive of firearms freedom. Most Americans, if not all Americas, are supportive of their right to self-defense. It’s going to be a great year for the gun community.”
