New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney conceded on Wednesday — eight days after election day — in his race against GOP challenger Ed Durr. Sweeney spent the past 11 years as Senate President and held the seat for two decades.

According to reports, Sweeney holds a role as legislative redistricting commissioner and may attempt to create space for his own comeback.

Late last week, Sweeney had said 12,000 ballots had recently been found and he would not drop out of the race until every vote was legally counted.
