The Iowa Standard has covered a number of subcommittees already this session focused on vaccine-related issues. During the weekend, we received this video clip of a faculty member of Walden University discussing vaccinations.

Dr. Melanie J. Wilhelm is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner. She is also certified as a pediatric primary care mental health specialist. She is dual board certified through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board, according to the Walden University website. She teaches pediatrics in the nurse practitioner program. This clip is included in a presentation the nurse practitioner students watch for a lecture.

Wilhelm tells students she usually just says what vaccines are due and asks for questions.

“We found that the less we talk about vaccines, the more people accept them,” she said.

Parents have lobbied legislators at the Capitol to increase informed consent regarding vaccinations, as well as a number of other concerns over vaccine-related issues.
