A group of Linn-Mar parents have started a petition encouraging the local school board to oppose policy 504.13 and 504.13-R after the board voted 5-2 in favor of the first reading of the new policy.

The policy allows students in seventh-grade and above to use locker rooms and bathrooms that correspond with their gender identity rather than biological sex. It also allows biological male and female students to room together on overnight trips if one identifies as transgender or non-binary.

The policy includes a “Gender Support Plan” and allows the school to not share this information with parents.

The petition is asking for signatures in an effort to prevent this policy from being enacted.

“We all need to fight together to protect ALL students, ensuring ALL students are comfortable and safe at school,” it states.

Those wishing to support the effort can sign the petition here.
