National school choice advocate Corey DeAngelis took to Twitter on Wednesday asking whether Republican House Rep. Dustin Hite supports school choice.

Hite, the chair of the House Education Committee, told Iowa reporters that House legislators are unlikely to take up the bill prior to the funnel deadline.

“I think we’re still going to have conversations in the House on it,” Hite said, according to the Iowa Capital Dispatch.

Hite has not responded to requests for his position of Education Savings Accounts.

DeAngelis shared the quote from Hite and noted that school choice is in the Republican Party platform. He also noted the fact the Iowa House is 60 percent Republican.

“Does Rep. Dustin Hite support school choice,” DeAngelis asked.

The Senate has the Governor’s education bill on the agenda for its Senate Education Committee meeting on Thursday. So long as the bill advances through that committee, the bill will be eligible to pass this year.
