Parents in the Bettendorf School District are saying the district crossed the line on Friday, claiming there was a queer pride pep rally and attendance was mandatory.

The Iowa Standard reached out to the district’s director of communications on Friday, but did not receive any response.

One parent said when they contacted the school they were told it was a pep rally to “boost morale.”

Another parent said staff was guarding the front entrances so nobody could leave. Staff was allegedly where the concession stands are making sure kids were not leaving and directing them to the gym.

In a photo shared on social media, it appears a male student was wearing female clothing. When the district responds with its version of events, we will gladly publish an update.
