The Pella Aquatic Center announced on Facebook the outdoor pool would be closed on Saturday, July 3 shortly before it was scheduled to open. And the aquatic center has “limited” who can comment on the post.

Some are still finding a way to let their thoughts be known, however, by sharing the post.

“Not surprising – make a policy that protects our children and your employees or close the doors,” Jason wrote. “Go woke = go broke.”

Darin said his family will no longer go to the aquatic center.

“We are just sickened about this,” he added.

The pool was originally scheduled to be open today from 1-6 p.m. The posted schedule, though, states that the city reserves the right to close features as needed due to staffing, low attendance and inclement weather or temperatures at or below 70 degrees.

As of 2:29 p.m., it is 85 degrees and sunny in Pella. Considering the aquatic center wasn’t open before the announcement was made, it’s hard to believe there would’ve been low attendance on the day before the Fourth of July.

Yesterday, three lifeguards and one concession worker walked off the job when an adult man dressed in a string bikini and an adult woman went topless with tape over her breasts.

On June 16, a middle teenaged biological female was allowed to go topless and use the men’s facilities with men and boys of all ages because she identifies as a male. The city council doubled down on the policy just hours before Tuesday’s council meeting.
