Name: C.J. Petersen, Democrat

Office/District: State Senate District 6

Hometown: Breda

Profession: Sales

Why running for office: “So I chose to run for office because I’m really tired of the divisiveness that we’ve seen over the last several years. I was a Republican until 2015 and I just see the country being torn apart and our neighbors aren’t talking to each other anymore. People are deleting each other on social media. Nobody can have a good conversation. You can’t even have a light-hearted conversation at Thanksgiving dinner. I think it’s time that we have somebody cut through the noise and be able to have conversations with our neighbors in that respect. I believe that Iowans in the sixth Senate District here really deserve a choice and there were no other Democrats stepping up. I don’t think this is just a red versus blue issue. I think anybody who is willing to bring people together and start a conversation can be successful in politics in Iowa.”
