The Plymouth County Republican Central Committee voted unanimously Tuesday night to censure Iowa Senate Majority Leader Mike Klimesh, citing what members described as a “retaliatory abuse of power” against Sen. Doug Campbell.
According to the resolution adopted by the committee, Klimesh stripped Campbell of all committee assignments in response to his actions related to legislation addressing carbon pipeline eminent domain concerns.
The resolution accuses Klimesh of engaging in political retribution and attempting to intimidate Campbell and other senators who forced debate on House File 639, a bill dealing with landowner protections.
Below is the full text of the resolution as adopted by the committee:
WHEREAS, Iowa Senate Majority Leader Mike Klimesh has stripped Senator Doug Campbell of all committee assignments in a brazen act of political retribution; and
WHEREAS, Senator Campbell has championed Iowa families on issues including private property rights and opposition to eminent domain abuse for carbon pipelines; and
WHEREAS, this action appears designed to intimidate Senator Campbell and other senators who forced debate on HF 639; and
WHEREAS, Republicans support open primaries in which voters choose nominees, not party leadership; and
WHEREAS, these actions demonstrate a disregard for grassroots Republicans and conservative principles;
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Plymouth County Republican Central Committee condemns Klimesh’s actions and calls for the immediate restoration of Campbell’s committee assignments.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the committee expressed support for Senator Campbell and urged him to continue advocating for what it described as Iowa families’ liberties and rights.

Way to go Plymouth County! Leading the way as Iowa Republicans make clear that they are united around Senator Doug Campbell and others who have stood for property rights, not Leader Klimesh’s retaliation!
