A recent Rasmussen Reports national phone and online survey shows a majority of Americans support laws against sex-change treatments for minors. Most Americans believe there are only two genders as well, by a large margin.
Seventy-one percent of adults agree with the statement “there are two genders, male and female.” Fifty-seven percent strongly agree. Twenty-three percent disagree, including 10 percent who strongly disagree.
Sixty-two percent of Americans approve of legislation making it illegal to perform sex-change surgery on kids. Forty-six percent strongly approve of such laws. Just 30 percent disapprove of states passing laws to protect children from sex-change surgeries.
The numbers are similar for laws banning hormone replacement therapy on minors. Fifty-nine percent approve of such bans while 31 percent disapprove.
Just 26 percent of Americans believe schools and teachers should be allowed to counsel students on their sexual and gender identities without parental knowledge or consent. Sixty percent are opposed to such policies.
Even 44 percent of Democrats oppose schools counseling children on gender identity without informing parents.
Fifty-six percent of Democrats at least somewhat approve of legislation protecting kids from sex-change surgeries.
