Iowa Young Republican groups are popping up across the state in an effort to attract younger voters to the GOP. No doubt this is a worthy goal. However, it is important to track what kind of leadership the groups have.

There are two leaders within the Iowa Young Republican chapters that should cause heartburn for conservatives across the state.

Ashley Hunt is the President of the Iowa Federation of Young Republicans. Hunt is seemingly a feminist.

Her company, IAstrategies, expressed support for Joe Biden’s all-female senior communications team.

“Biden has put together a list of women for what could be the first-ever all-female senior communications team in the White House. It’s just another step to make sure women are represented in leadership all across our nation! #FUTUREISFEMALE”

Future is Female is also the tagline on Hunt’s shirt in her Facebook profile picture.

Hunt also did an interview with the Washington Post leading up to the election. She was identified as the 29-year-old chair of the Iowa Young Republicans.

“A lot of us want to be inspired right now. It’s a pretty dark time,” she said.

Hunt called Trump not a natural “consoler in chief” but was hopeful after hearing President Trump planned to “keep it positive.”

The article continued:

“She wants her party to accept the Black Lives Matter movement and open its leadership ranks to a younger and more diverse array of people.

“There’s just this overwhelming idea that we are the White old men party. It’s an issue for all of us if people of color are afraid to walk on the street because the people who are told to protect us are actually harming them.”

Hunt also memorialized former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“RBG was a trailblazer for women and she will be missed greatly. RBG paved the way for women to run for office, to be leaders in their professional lives and to empower each other. May we all reflect on the many many lessons we can learn from her. She’s been a hero of mine for years.”

The BLM argument should be of particular concern, especially considering what happened on Thursday at the Iowa Capitol.
