This week, President Trump took executive action to end taxpayer-funded open borders by halting federal welfare benefits from flowing to illegal aliens.
Research from the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) shows that the Biden administration created an on-ramp to Medicaid, expanded food stamp spending, and funded other programs to benefit those who entered the United States illegally.
President Trump recognizes that welfare programs should reserve resources for Americans who are truly needy while promoting work and self-sufficiency for able-bodied adults. America spends more than $100 billion annually on food stamps alone, and President Biden’s policies have worsened the crisis by discouraging work for an estimated 2.4 million Americans, keeping them trapped in government dependency.
The president’s decisive action restores accountability, reduces burdens on taxpayers, and encourages independence for millions of Americans.
President Trump’s executive order accomplishes the following:
- Directs federal departments and agencies to identify all federally funded programs currently providing financial benefits to illegal aliens and take corrective action
- Ensures that federal funds to states and localities will not be used to support “sanctuary” policies or assist illegal immigration
- Mandates improvements in eligibility verification to prevent benefits from going to individuals unlawfully present in the United States
- Safeguards federal public benefits for American citizens who are truly in need, including individuals with disabilities and veterans
“Yesterday’s executive order is a major victory for common sense and the American people,” said Tarren Bragdon, President and CEO of the Foundation for Government Accountability. “For too long, corrupt politicians in Washington have prioritized illegal aliens over struggling American citizens. This order ends the madness, restores sanity, and once again puts America First.”
“With this executive order, President Trump recognizes a fundamental truth: Limited taxpayer resources put toward welfare programs should be reserved for truly needy Americans, not illegal aliens,” said Bragdon.
