In what could be one of the most pivotal Iowa House Republican primary elections of 2022, Rep. Joe Mitchell announced he will challenge Rep. Jeff Shipley for House District 87. Shipley has been one of the most vocal proponents of medical freedom in the Iowa legislature. The race is essentially between a conservative champion and a more moderate, establishment Republican.

Mitchell infuriated conservatives last year when he publicly announced he was against school choice.
