Republican State Rep. Jon Jacobsen told The Iowa Standard he is running for the Iowa Senate in District 8.

The new Senate District 8, if approved later this week, looks like this:

Jacobsen said he fully anticipates the maps will be approved when the legislature convenes for a special session later this week.

The Senate District would currently be represented by Republican Sen. Mark Costello. Jacobsen, though, said he is running for the seat because he’d be able to “stay home and be with my people — including the folks both north and south I’ve helped so much with flood relief as well as the good Glenwood folks I’ve helped with the Resource Center and pool.”

“My trust work and radio work takes me to every corner of the new district,” he said. “Which has my old House district as its bedrock core.”
