While a handful of Democrats continue to campaign for their party’s nomination to take on Sen. Joni Ernst this fall, Ernst continues to build her war chest.

The Republican senator, who was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2014, raised nearly $2.75 million in the first quarter of 2020. Ernst has about $6.5 million cash on hand.

Perhaps most impressive is 96 percent of donations were $100 or less. And, Ernst received donations from all 99 counties.

It is the largest amount raised and cash on hand reported at this time in an election cycle in recent Hawkeye State history.

“We’re proud to run a truly grassroots driven campaign, and are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received all across the state,” Team Joni tweeted out on Monday night. “Thank you all.”

Ernst is the vice-chair of the Senate Republican Conference. Both Ernst and Sen. Chuck Grassley are part of the Republican Leadership in the United States Senate.
