Today, Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) announced that Iowa is receiving the first $110,745,000 investment from the bipartisan infrastructure law that she helped get signed into law last month.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funds are allocated through the State Revolving Fund (SRF) to upgrade Iowa’s aging water infrastructure and create jobs while addressing key challenges like lead in drinking water.

“Across Iowa, aging pipes and other water infrastructure are putting our families and kids at risk. In fact, a recent study showed that three of every four young children in Iowa have some detectable level of lead in their blood,” said Rep. Axne. “Our bipartisan infrastructure law tackles that challenge head on by bringing more than $600 million to Iowa over the next five years to invest in clean drinking water and create jobs by replacing miles of lead pipes and other water projects. I’m pleased to see the first fifth of that money already on its way to Iowa to begin this important and lifesaving work.”

This funding represents the first of five years of support expected from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for water infrastructure projects, projected to total $638 million by 2026.

The bipartisan infrastructure law signed into law last month is projected to create more than 770,000 jobs by 2025 and bring more than $5,000,000,000 in infrastructure investments to Iowa.

Last month, Rep. Axne voted with a bipartisan majority in the House to send the bill to the President’s desk to become law.
